Provisional Special Benefit for Households where their annual income fell after January 1st, 2021, qualifying them for residents tax exempt status

Around the country, due to the ongoing state caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, households have faced a variety of challenges in regards to the way they live and work. For this reason, in order to aid in fast relief and to keep families thriving, the government has developed a special temporary stipend to be distributed to households that are exempt from residents tax, and households where their annual income fell after January 1st, 2021, qualifying them for tax exempt status.

Allowance amount and eligible individuals

Amount: 100,000 yen per household

Application period: Applications need to be postmarked by September 30th, 2022.

Eligibility:

Households, where due to the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, annual income has decreased.

For households whose expected annual income (12 x income for any month beginning January 2021) is equal to or fell below the amount that would qualify them for residents tax exempt status, they are able to apply for the benefit. 

Receiving repeated payments is not possible. Those who will or have applied to the special benefit for the provisional special benefit for residents tax-exempt households are not able to apply.

How to apply

To receive the allowance, one must submit an application.

To download the application forms, please use the below link. Once you have filled in all the necessary fields and provided the required documents, please send your application in by mail.
