Your “My Number Card” can be used in place of your current health insurance card
A new Myna Health Insurance Card system where the My Number Cards have taken over the function of current health insurance cards has started, meaning you can instead use your My Number Card as your health insurance card. Since December 2, 2024, current style health insurance cards have been no longer issued as part of this change.
Note:
“Myna Health Insurance Card” refers to My Number Cards that take on the same function as your current health insurance card. In order to use your My Number Card as your health insurance card, you must register to use them as such in advance through the Mynaportal, or a card reader with facial recognition (installed at medical facilities) or Seven Bank ATMs.
The Mynaportal is available in both Japanese and English. https://myna.go.jp
Until when can I use my current health insurance card?
1. Those who have health insurance cards without expiration dates
For those entered into insurance as part of the companies where you work, your health insurance card has no expiration date. However you will be no longer able to use your health insurance card from December 2, 2025.
For these people please follow the below:
🌀 For those who are already registered with the Myna Health Insurance Card system
Until December 1, 2025
You can use either your Myna Health Insurance Card, or continue to use your health insurance card.
From December 2, 2025
Please use your Myna Health Insurance Card.
🌀 For those who have not yet registered with the Myna Health Insurance Card system
Those who have not yet set up a Myna Health Insurance Card as of December 2, 2025 use a “Certificate of Qualification (資格確認書//Shikaku kakunin-sho)” as a health insurance Card. The certificate will be sent from the organization where your health insurance card is issued by.
2. For those enrolled in the National Health Insurance or Late-Stage Elderly Medical Care System, their health insurance card has an expiration date
Health insurance cards for those enrolled in the National Health Insurance (国民健康保険//Kokumin Kenko Hoken) or in the Late-Stage Elderly Medical Care System for aged 75 or older (後期高齢者医療制度//Kōki kōreisha iryō seido), have expiration dates written on them. Please confirm well in advance when your card expires. None will be valid longer than July 31, 2025 at the latest.
For these people please follow the below:
🌀 For those who are already registered with the Myna Health Insurance Card system
Until the listed expiration date
You may either use your Myna Health Insurance Card, or your current health insurance card.
After the listed expiration date
Please use your Myna Health Insurance Card.
🌀 For those who have not yet registered with the Myna Health Insurance Card system
Those who have not registered with the Myna Health Insurance Card system at the time that their current health insurance card expires, use a “Certificate of Qualification (資格確認書//Shikaku kakunin-sho)” as a health insurance card. This certificate will be sent from the organization where your current health insurance card has been issued by.
3.For those whose insurance will change, such as those moving outside of Hiroshima City, retiring, or moving jobs
For those moving outside of Hiroshima City, retiring, moving jobs, or turning 75 years old and entering the Late-Stage Elderly Medical Care System, even should your card have time remaining before expiration, you will at that point become unable to use your health insurance card.
After then, please either use a Myna Health Insurance Card system or a “Certificate of Qualification (資格確認書//Shikaku kakunin-sho)” received from the organization where your current health insurance card has been issued by as a health insurance card.
The City will send those without a Myna Health Insurance Card a “Certificate of Qualification (資格確認書//Shikaku kakunin-sho)”
From December 2, 2024, as your health insurance card expires, a “Certificate of Qualification (資格確認書//Shikaku kakunin-sho)” will be issued to those without Myna Health Insurance Cards by the organization where your current health insurance card issued by. When you go to a medical facility, please present this certificate at the reception desk.
About a notification of your present health insurance enrollment information (資格情報のお知らせ//Shikaku jyōhō no oshirase)
The organization where your current health insurance issued by will be sending a notification in order to confirm your present health insurance enrollment information.
This notification can be used when the card reader at medical facilities is not working, or when you cannot be seen for medical examination with just your Myna Health Insurance Card. Please bring this with your Myna Health Insurance Card when visiting medical facilities.
Attention:
⦁ The notification alone is not enough to receive healthcare/medical treatment services provided by health insurance, meaning the incurred healthcare/medical treatment fee will not be covered by your health insurance.
⦁ The Certificate of Qualification and this notification are not the same document.
