COVID-19: Changes to government support for COVID-19 treatment (as of 5/8/2023)

Beginning on May 8, 2023, COVID-19 was downgraded and reclassified as a Class 5 Infectious Disease under the Infectious Disease Act. Below you can find information about what has changed after reclassification. For more information, please visit the Hiroshima City official website (▪Japanese  ▪English). Please note that the following information is subject to change in the future.

🔹 Changes to medical and testing fees

Item After Reclassification to Class 5 (from 5/8)
Government support for outpatient treatment fees, hospitalization
fees, testing fees
Government support only for therapeutic drugs and a portion of
hospitalization fees will continue until the end of September 2023.
Other treatment fees will be paid by the patient under co-pay.

🔹 Changes to services provided by medical institutions
